Lose weight without dieting

Dieting is hard work and most people give up within a matter of weeks and others within just a few days. Let’s face it; extreme starvation regimes like the maple syrup diet can only really be attempted by those able to take a week out of life to lie on the sofa in a frail state of miserable self-punishment. Cabbage-soup is not for the faint hearted or for sociable types and the Juice diet will leave you tired and your tummy constantly rumbling with hunger. Whilst crash diets inevitably do help you to lose weight in a short period of time they should never be used as a long weight loss plan.

These techniques are popular and well known weight loss tips, and none of them involve drastically changing what you eat, so you can still continue to enjoy all the food you enjoy.

Eat slowly – taking longer over your meals will help to cut down on calorie intake. This is because it can take the brain up to 15 minutes to tell you you’ve had enough to eat, so if you’re a fast eater the chances are you’ll overeat before your body can naturally signal to you to stop. Faster eaters, in fact, weigh an average of 7kg more than slow eaters. That really is food for thought.

Drink less – alcohol is high in calories, so limiting your intake can make a real difference especially if you are prone to drinking frequently or worse still binge drinking. Stick to drinking no more than one glass of wine in the evening with your meal, and try using smaller-taller vessels to pour your drinks into to give the illusion of having a long drink. Where possible avoid sugary mixers and opt for diet versions of your favourite sodas and tonics.

Hide treats away – having quick access to snacks inevitably leads to constant nibbling, and even healthy snacks like nuts and fruit will count towards your daily calorie allowance. Moving snacks away from the area immediate surrounding you, even by a few meters, will make you less likely to graze on food unnecessarily throughout the entire day.
